BTBJ is an egalitarian Conservative Jewish congregation for 210 families including a thriving religious
school and Early Childhood Center.  Our shul is home to a diverse, engaged and intergenerational
community.  We strive to be  warm and welcoming to all who enter our doors to benefit from exploring
Jewish life as well as contributing to the welfare and strength of our kehillah.
We are located in Montgomery County, PA and a USCJ-affiliated synagogue.
Our Executive Director is expected to perform the following core responsibilities:

  1. Office Manager. The ED needs to supervise the office staff in all day-to-day operations;
    effectively leading the team and creating a warm and productive working environment.
    Coordination of all services and programming logistics, including planning, execution, and
    communications.
  2. Relationship Manager. The ED needs to be excellent at building and maintaining personal
    relationships with our current members and a welcoming contact for prospective members. 
    Engage regularly with the Board of Directors, affiliates groups and committees; develop
    meaningful and effective relationships with our community, fellow executive director
colleagues, Jewish Federation, USCJ, and vendor partnerships. 3. Communications and Marketing Manager. The ED needs to develop and implement a communication and marketing  strategy to share service and program information to our members and community at large in an effective, consistent and timely manner. 4. Financial Manager. The ED needs to operate the synagogue effectively and efficiently within the approved budget, as well as work in partnership with the finance committee in the budget development and operational processes. Support and encourage synagogue fundraising programs and seek out and apply for grant funding.   5. Operations and Building Manager. The ED needs to oversee the day to day functioning of the building and supervise the maintenance staff. Responsible for ensuring our entire facility is safe, healthy, and productive for all members, staff, and community at all times. 6. Clergy and Professional Support. The ED needs to work as part of a collaborative team with our Rabbi, Director of Congregational Music, Religious School Director and ECC Director to set and implement vision for our congregation. 7. Board of Directors Support. The ED needs to work in tandem with the Board of Directors to execute the vision and mission of BTBJ and adhere to and uphold our Bylaws. The ED reports to the President of the Board of Directors.  Detailed responsibilities will be shared with candidates. The preferred candidate will embody the following characteristics and qualities. Our preferred candidate will be warm and personable with the ability to develop and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with staff, members, prospective members, visitors,  and colleagues. They will be a team player, demonstrating initiative, adaptability, and flexibility.  The ED will have the ability to think strategically and be able to execute multiple projects simultaneously. The ED will also have exceptional organizational skills including planning, delegating, program development and task

facilitation.  The ED will have a vision of how to grow our vibrant kehillah and uphold our traditions and
values.
The preferred candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities 
● A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial and operational experience in synagogue
administration and management or comparable non-profit experience.
● Human resources experience with demonstrated success in managing, motivating and
developing staff.
● Working knowledge of Shul Cloud, Quickbooks, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, CRM
systems, Social Media, and generally technology savvy
● Strong written and oral communications skills
● Member of NATA or NAASE or similar professional associations.
● Strong Jewish knowledge regarding culture, ritual practices, and history.
● Bachelor's degree required, Masters in relevant field preferred
Job Details
This is a full-time in person position, the candidate must be able to work evenings and weekends, as
needed.
Compensation package
Annual salary in the $70,000 to $80,000 range (total compensation), commensurate with background
and experience.  
The allocation of any benefit package, which will be the subject of negotiations, will include PTO and a
synagogue membership and may include participation in our group health plan in part and an allowance
for education of children if appropriate
